Privacy Policy

Sober Sunrise is designed to be a calm, private recovery companion. This Privacy Policy explains what information the Sober Sunrise app and website process, how it is used, and the choices available to you.

Who We Are

Information Stored on Your Device

Depending on how you use the app, you may choose to enter a sobriety date, display name, pledge or gratitude entries, journal content, reminders, contacts, meeting details, and other recovery information. This information is generally stored locally on your device and is not sent to us unless you intentionally include it in a Sober Companion message, a support request, or another feature that clearly requires online processing.

Sober Companion

Sober Companion is optional. Before the first message is sent, the app asks for permission to have Companion messages processed by Sober Sunrise and a third-party AI service. If you continue, the following information may be processed:

• The message you send, recent messages needed to understand the conversation, and a summary of older messages when a conversation becomes long.
• Technical information needed to provide and protect the service, such as app version, build, locale, random request and conversation identifiers, a pseudonymous installation or security identifier, and subscription access status.

Messages are sent through Sober Sunrise services hosted by Cloudflare and are processed by OpenAI to generate replies and perform safety checks. We configure the OpenAI API not to store response application state, and OpenAI states that API data is not used to train its models. OpenAI may retain prompts, responses, and related metadata in abuse-monitoring logs for up to 30 days by default, unless a longer period is required for safety or legal reasons. Sober Sunrise does not intentionally write Companion message contents to our service databases or application logs. We keep limited pseudonymous usage, entitlement, request, and device-attestation records to enforce reply limits, prevent abuse, and secure the service. These records do not contain the text of your conversation.

Your saved Companion chat history stays on your device. Sober Sunrise does not automatically attach your name, sobriety date, journal, contacts, or other local recovery entries to a Companion request. Information you type into a Companion message is included in that request.

Sign in with Apple

If you use Sign in with Apple, Apple may provide a user identifier and, only when you choose to share it, your name or email address. Sober Sunrise uses this information for account-related features and personalization.

App Purchases and Subscriptions

Sober Sunrise offers optional Sponsor and Sober Companion subscriptions through Apple. Purchases, renewals, cancellations, refunds, and payment information are handled by Apple. We do not receive your full payment card information. RevenueCat processes a pseudonymous app user identifier, product and entitlement information, and purchase history so the app can verify subscription access.

Notifications

If you allow notifications, Sober Sunrise may schedule daily pledge, morning, meeting, milestone, or new episode reminders. Local reminders run on your device. When remote notifications are enabled, Apple Push Notification service and the Sober Sunrise notification service process a device push token and limited technical information needed to deliver them.

Audio, Website, and Online Services

The app may connect to Sober Sunrise website services, podcast or audio feeds, WordPress content, Cloudflare services, and similar providers to load speaker talks, artwork, premium assets, notifications, or other app content. These services may receive standard network and technical information such as IP address, device or browser information, request time, and requested URL.

iCloud and Apple Services

If iCloud or Apple account features are enabled, Apple may process data under Apple's privacy terms. Sober Sunrise may use Apple-provided storage, authentication, notification, purchase, and security services to support app features.

How We Use Information

We use information only as reasonably necessary to operate requested features, create Sober Companion replies, provide recovery tools and audio, verify subscriptions, deliver notifications, respond to support requests, improve reliability, secure the service, prevent abuse, enforce usage limits, and comply with legal obligations.

How We Share Information

We share limited information with service providers only when needed to operate the app. These providers include Apple for app distribution, purchases, authentication, notifications, and device security; RevenueCat for subscription access; Cloudflare for network, security, storage, and app services; OpenAI for Sober Companion replies and safety processing; Hostinger and WordPress for website content; and email or support providers when you contact us. We require service providers to handle information consistently with their agreements and applicable law.

We do not sell your personal information, share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, or use third-party advertising trackers.

Your Choices and Controls

• You choose what information to enter in the app and whether to use online features.
• You may decline Sober Companion message processing. If previously allowed, you can withdraw permission in Settings > Support & Legal > Companion Message Permission. The app will ask again before another Companion message is sent.
• You can delete saved Companion chats from the Companion history screen. Other locally stored app information can be removed using available app controls or by deleting the app and its data.
• You can disable notifications in iOS Settings.
• You can manage or cancel subscriptions in your Apple ID subscription settings.
• You can use the in-app account deletion control when signed in, or review our account deletion information.
• You can contact us to request access to or deletion of information associated with you that we control. We may need information sufficient to locate and verify the relevant records, and may retain limited records when required for security, fraud prevention, or law.

Data Retention

Information stored on your device remains there until you delete it, reset the app, or remove the app and its data. Saved Companion chats remain on your device until you clear them.

Sober Sunrise does not retain Companion conversation text in its service database. OpenAI's standard API abuse-monitoring logs may retain message content and related metadata for up to 30 days as described above. We retain pseudonymous subscription, usage-limit, request-security, and device-attestation records only as reasonably necessary to operate and protect the service. Support emails may be retained as needed to respond and maintain appropriate records.

Security

We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards designed to protect information, including encrypted network connections and device-attestation controls for Sober Companion. No electronic service can guarantee absolute security.

Health, Recovery, and Emergency Disclaimer

Sober Sunrise and Sober Companion are not medical providers, emergency services, or substitutes for professional care, therapy, treatment, sponsorship, meetings, or crisis support. If you are in immediate danger, call emergency services. In the United States, call or text 988 for crisis support.

Children

Sober Sunrise is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as features or legal requirements change. The updated version will be posted on this page with a revised effective date.
